Live & Learn hosts quarterly coffee events about an important topic affecting women experiencing poverty in Maricopa County.
At the first coffee event of 2022, Live & Learn focused on the interrelated issues of housing and childcare, with two local experts weighing in, while attendees enjoyed free coffee supplied by Empower Coffee Roasters.
Stefanie Nader, who is currently a CaseWorker III / Program Manager for the Landlord Tenant and VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance with the City of Phoenix) and a Live & Learn alumna, spoke on the housing issues in Arizona.
Dr. Allison Mullady, who works for the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions in the Office of Education Innovation at Arizona State University, spoke on childcare issues. Dr. Mullady has taught courses at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College in early childhood education.
Stephanie Castillo, who is Live & Learn’s Program Manager, says
“Right now, women are paying $1,300 for small apartments, and, on top of that, they still have to pay for childcare.”
The coffee events are a great way for community members to explore, collaboratively, ideas and solutions to help women and to help the community.
