The Opportunity:
Live & Learn Arizona is seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented Director of Finance to lead the organization’s internal financial operations. This strategic role oversees accounting, grant budget management, and long-term financial planning to ensure transparency, compliance, and sustainability. The Director of Finance will work closely with the Executive Director, Board Treasurer, and staff to support the financial integrity of the organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a financial professional passionate about nonprofit work and economic empowerment for women.
What the Director of Finance Does:
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks Online
- Oversee Bookkeeper
- Process monthly journal entries and allocations across funding sources
- Reconcile restricted and unrestricted revenue streams
- Grant & Fund Management
- Track income and expenses by grant and program
- Create and oversee grant budgets in coordination with program teams
- Monitor spend-down plans and flag variances to leadership
- Collaborate with staff to ensure compliance with funder guidelines
Budgeting & Strategic Planning
- Partner with the Executive Director to create and revise the annual organizational budget
- Develop multi-year financial forecasts and mid-year budget reviews
- Provide financial analysis to support strategic planning and organizational growth
Financial Reporting & Audit Support
- Prepare monthly financial statements and dashboards for leadership and Board review
- Support preparation of Board reports and annual audit materials
- Maintain documentation in alignment with nonprofit audit standards
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure adherence to GAAP, IRS 990 requirements, and organizational financial policies
- Manage vendor documentation and financial filing deadlines
- Recommend improvements to internal controls and financial processes
Investment & Reserve Strategy
- Research and recommend socially responsible investment options
- Analyze and present reserve strategies in alignment with organizational goals
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and payroll providers
- Provide budget guidance during grant development and proposal stages
- Communicate financial processes clearly to program and administrative staff
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–8 years of accounting experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Understanding of nonprofit fund accounting and GAAP
- High integrity, strong analytical skills, and ability to communicate complex financial info
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with grant budgeting and restricted revenue
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems
- Knowledge of nonprofit investment strategies and financial growth planning
What We Offer:
- Salary: $80,000- $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications Benefits: Employer-covered health insurance, 401K match up to 4%, generous PTO and holidays
